Lights on top of buses?

Topic started by JoeRaj on 10 Dec `12, 4:05PM:

Hello guys, I have had this question for at least 35 years, and until now, I havent found the answer. (Not that I have asked it a lot)

But I now realsie that you good ppl, will most probably be able to answer them for me.

You know all buses, esp double deckers, have these 2 small lights at either sides on the top of the buses. Some hv it at the back as well, these 2 purple, pink or red lights (usually) near the roof.

What are they for? Surely it can be a warning of it's height or is it? Even newer buses have them. It cant be for the drivers to see heighst either, the lighst are too small and ineffective, so what are they for?

Any clues? Thanks

yes, the height warning is the true answer

most tall buildings if u notice, they have this light (always red) installed on the corners or the top of the buildings

at night, they light up, warning low flying aircraft of such hazards

of couse, these lights are unable to warn birds though
