A BEACHGOER in Canada has made the discovery of a lifetime.
Steve Thurber was walking along the secluded Schooner's Cove in Tofino, which had recently been excavated for a restoration project, when he came across an old bottle lying in the sand, the Global News reported.
It was sealed and contained a note, and Thurber has refused to open in order to preserve it.
However, some details were visible from the outside. The note was dated September 29, 1906 and signed by
Earl Willard, who was 76 hours into a boat trip on the Steamer Rainier from San Francisco to Bellingham, Washington when he wrote it.
That's 1800 kilometres away from where it was found.
"I guess it is a chance thing that you find something that somebody sent out into the water," Thurber said. "I mean, even if it was a year later or 10 years later, but 100 years later is just unreal."
The note also lists Willard's address in Bellingham.
The previous Guinness World Record for a message in a bottle was 98 years.
