Singaporean Ah Beng jailed 7 years for bomb threat
Singaporean Ng Chong Guan, 27, has been jailed 7 years for criminal intimidation and assault when he anonymously phoned a clinic and made death threats to a nurse. The incident happened on June 30, where Chong Guan made three phone calls between 10.20am and 10.40am from public phones outside Bishan CPF building and opposite Bishan interchange.
Ng Chong Guan, who was verified as mildy intellectually disabled in court, told the nurse in Hokkien and English:
“I am a 369 gangster…today I will send my men to bomb your…clinic…you betray my girlfriend right, betray him right, let me tell you, you will be die, get killed by five o’clock.”
The “gangster” made the threat as a revenge because the private clinic, located 368 Geylang Road, called the police when his girlfriend left without paying for medication and treatment five days earlier on June 25.
On a separate charge of assault which happened on June 20, Ng Chong Guan kicked a taxi driver, Tan Kok Chiew, in the face, rib and leg after he refused to leave his belongings as security deposit when he did not have money to pay for the taxi fare.
Ng Chong Guan was sentenced on Sep 25.
Gangsters go to jail.
SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has confirmed that there was a bomb threat concerning flight SQ001, which originated from San Francisco and arrived at Changi Airport on Sunday afternoon (Nov 22).
In a media statement, SIA said that the matter was referred to the authorities. “We regret we are unable to provide details, as it concerns security,” it said.
The plane landed safely at about noon, but disembarkation was delayed until around 1.30pm. Passengers then had to wait for nearly two hours to collect their baggage.
Passengers were calm, although not much information was given by the airline, one of them told TODAY.
“We were held on the tarmac … for about 20 minutes. The captain then made the announcement that the gate was changed,” said Mr Hoe, who declined to give his full name.
“We were then parked at some remote area near the airport, and no further information was given, apart from waiting for air traffic control instructions.
“At approximately 1.10pm, the captain made the announcement that the plane will be held on the tarmac, and we would be ferried to the terminal by airport bus due to security concerns.
“I thought the captain was handling the situation well. No one was panicking on board. We actually didn’t know anything, and everyone thought it was just a normal delay until the announcement was made at 1.10pm. Everyone still remained calm.”

Hello everyone, in my local playground there is a badminton court and every single night there would be a large group of malay teenagers playing that wooden ball kicking sport, and it's horrendously noisy. They would shout and laugh like some maniac every 5 minutes, and it's driving my family crazy. They have been doing this for years, and I just don't know what I can do to stop this. I have tried calling the police several times, but they(the police) either don't show up, or the group will come back the next day. I have even used the SPF's e-services to complain about this problem twice, but I have never gotten one reply from them. Aside from getting help from the police(which I have clearly given up on), what can I do to stop them?
just let them enjoy

Sometimes, we think we’d be happier if we just married a deep pan pepperoni. But then we get over our hangover and get up off the sofa.
Not so this 22-year-old Russian man, who apparently just got married to a pizza.
The ceremony allegedly took place in a pizzeria in the city of Tomsk, in Russia.
The bride was thin and crispy and wore a veil. The groom (who wasn’t named) wore his best clean shirt.
The former-bachelor says he decided to commit to his favourite fast food after getting bored of the single life. ‘Love between two humans is a complicated wild thing,’ he said.
Pizza, on the other hand, ‘would not reject you or betray you, and speaking quite frankly and sincerely, I love it.’
Russian authorities, however, refused to officially register the marriage and a church also turned the newlyweds down.
So, in the end, the ceremony took place in a local pizzeria with the chefs and managers as witnesses. The restaurant even presented them with a non-official but very smart wedding certificate on a clipboard.
Details of what happened on their wedding night were not revealed.
But we hear the wedding breakfast was amazing.
Marriage is not valid.
Hii ppl i was wondering was GCE N LEVEL English easy or hard to pass. How they calculate the score? And i dunnoe why i failed my English.

From Dec 1, tighter regulations will be implemented on the use and sale of electric bicycles, or what is known as power-assisted bicycles (PAB), on Singapore roads.
The revised rules, announced yesterday by Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA), follow the European Standard EN15194 and aim to improve road safety for PAB users and others.
The measures include PABs having a maximum weight of 20kg.
The agency also announced that with immediate effect, the fines for first time offenders will be raised to $300, up from $100.
LTA's press release stated: "Special attention is being paid to PABs because they are currently allowed on public roads, and hence there are significant safety concerns... In addition, models which comply with the standard are harder to illegally modify."
The EN15194 standard is in use in 33 countries across Europe and in Australia.
The LTA said that PABs that have been approved under the current requirements and affixed with a blue seal will still be allowed on public roads.
From Feb 1 next year, only electric bicycles which comply with the new requirements will be approved and given orange seals.
WELCOME MOVE
Two electric bike distributors told The New Paper they welcomed the move.
Mr Jason Koh of MKP Bikes said the power and speed is sufficient for the average person.
His company sells electric bikes with prices ranging from $1,400 to $5,000.
Said Mr Koh, an operations manager: "Hopefully, this will put an end to illegal modifications that allow electric bikes to reach speeds above 60kmh. At such speeds, you might as well ride a motorcycle."
Mr Chris Kuah, managing director of Xiao Dao Electric Bicycles, said keeping the weight of the PABs low will reduce impact in any collision.
Those who modify their bikes for speed and power choose heavier frames, forks and wheels for more stability.
But only a minority customise their PABs in Singapore, said Mr Kuah, who has been in the business for eight years.
He said: "I saw the trend for lighter and reliable electric bicycles overseas where they adopt the European standard. So I was prepared.
"It was only a matter of time that Singapore would follow suit."
Aside from getting rid of stock which do not adhere to the new regulations, there is one concern that may affect sellers.
Said Mr Koh: "It's going to be a problem sourcing for electric bicycles below 20kg. Most electric bicycles that are produced are just under 30kg. Also, a lighter electric bicycle may not be suitable for heavier riders."
Mr Kuah also hopes the authorities can give a 5kg allowance, so that there is a 25kg limit instead.
1,280 The number of notices issued for offences involving the use or sale of non-regulation power-assisted bicycles from January to October this year. There were only 11 notices in 2008, said the LTA.
Riding bikes are dangerous. So there is no reason why it should not be implemented.
Seeing as to how
- Downtown Line Stage 2 (DTL2) is entering service in a year or so, and
- there still isn't a specific thread dedicated to discussing (possible) bus rationalisation when the line opens, despite numerous discussions in other miscellanous threads,
I thought I would start this one just to have a common place for
our ideas and speculations.
DTL2 stations:
Originally posted by TPS Timothy Mok:When DTL opens, service 23's full DD will even have to extend all the way to Dover Bus Interchange, that is near to Singapore Polytechnic (2017) and will merge with 191 (2 buses). This will allow a cap and a new direct link between Portsdown Rd and MCE, that is provided if there is no downgrading of fleets. Service 65 is no longer full fleet DD anymore becos DTL3 opening in 2017.
No. Service 65 can be full fleet DD

Many people think Singaporeans are only exam-smart because they
blindly memorize and regurgitate. While that may apply somewhat to
lower levels (eg. PSLE and O levels), it doesn't apply so much to
higher levels, eg. A levels*, Olympiads, University levels. And at
all levels, standards continue to increase and bell-curves continue
to be steeper, due to increasing competition for academic
qualifications and jobs, both intra-nationally and inter-nationally
in an increasingly globalized context.
*Singapore A levels are, by some standards and for some subjects,
already more difficult than international A levels.
In short, it is overly simplistic and wrong to say Singapore
students are exam-smart merely because they blindly memorize. Blind
memorization alone is increasingly insufficient for A level papers
(eg. H2 Chemistry), and absolutely insufficient for Olympiads and
international competitions.
If Singaporeans always top the international rankings in
mathematics and science, and are truly intelligent instead of
blindly memorizing and regurgitation, why then (critics love to use
this argument), has Singapore produced no Nobel prize
winners?
One major reason (there are others of course), which appears to
have been overlooked by almost everyone else discussing this issue,
is the exceedingly pragmatic Singaporean culture when it comes to
money and career. (This holds true for other countries around the
world as well, but especially for Singapore where costs of living
continue to escalate amidst increasing competition from foreign
talent and rising rentals by greedy REITS, even as the Sing dollar
strengthens against other regional currencies... obviously there
are unethical parties, organizations and industries covertly
exploiting this, which is where all the money disappears to instead
of benefiting the population... but that's the topic for another
discussion altogether).
Whilst ideally (and arguably), the most brilliant minds in any
population should work and contribute to mankind's scientific
advancement, but here in Singapore, other than Medicine, almost all
the top students (who could have qualified for scientific careers)
prefer the hugely more financially lucrative careers of banking and
finance, law and other careers more profitable than in Science. The
kiasu-ism and kiasi-ism, fear of not earning enough to survive or
provide comfortably for your future family in increasingly
competitive Singapore, coupled relentless societal pressure (eg.
Hollywood glamorized Wall Street financial exploits, the
proliferation of Top 10 Richest in Singapore / Asia / the World on
the internet and social media), motivates one's greed to be the
elite cream of the crop, the top 5% elite stratum of society right
at the of society, in this dog-eat-dog, survival of the fittest,
rapidly globalizing Singapore.
In short, this is one of the very real, major reasons, one that has
been mostly overlooked and missed, why Singapore hasn't produced a
Nobel prize winner. Not that there aren't any Singaporeans
intelligent enough to do so, but that most Singaporeans strongly
prioritize financial security and career stability over a PhD
research career in the Sciences, which pays out a mere pittance of
a fraction compared to careers in banking and finance.
Banking and finance doesn't contribute anywhere as much benefit to
mankind, as compared to science, medicine and technology; but it's
where the money is, and therefore it's where most of the top
brains, minds and students in Singapore, choose to go.
Hardworking kids tend to do better than smart kids these days...
Please ban that user Path Light, because:
This is an appeal to the moderators!!!!!!

That sense of banning is futile, because more clones can still appear. There are some other technical solutions though, provided that they can work and the admins are willing to carry them out:
- (1) Time-ban the group of IP addresses associated with these mimic accounts, prevent the joker from creating more accounts from there
- (2) Halt all creation of new accounts for a few days, those wanting accounts must send email to admins for permission
- (3) Restrict this forum to a selected group of users / disallow new members from posting until they have accumulated at least 30-50 posts.
- (4) Set automatic message deletion for new members posting in this forum for the time being.
If these don't happen, then we just have to make sure that we ignore all the clones / newly created accounts and don't reply to them.
There is nothing happening because Path Light will be unbanned on 27 November 2015
A 34-year-old Cantonese-speaking tenant was arrested for a gruesome murder of her 76-year-old landlord over an alleged dispute. The incident happened around 10pm last night (Nov 11) at Yishun Ring Road Block 114, #02-549.
Blood were found splattered all over the crime scene and along the corridor outside the unit.
A neighbour interviewed by the media revealed that the 34-year-old woman was always heard shouting in Cantonese angrily inside the house everyday for more than half a year.
The nationality of the suspect is unknown.
What was their disputes? Why it ended into a murder?
Guys please help me.. I have a feeling I would fail my n level math/ e math. Can I still be promoted to secondary 5? Is it a compulsory criteria to pass math? I'm super worried, I did fine for other subjects but the only problem is math.
If you fail Maths, you cannot even promote further.
